For individuals to focus on a particular theological discipline; while certificates of completion are issued for all courses, the Certificates of Catholic Theology program requires multiple courses and a final written assignment
What Is an Online Course?
An online course from STEP is typically created by a Notre Dame theology professor, and is coordinated by a skilled facilitator in an online collaborative learning environment.
All of our courses are between four and seven weeks long. The first week of the course is introductory, with time for you to learn the online system and to meet your classmates. After that, each week focuses on a unit of content and has the following structure:
- Read texts and/or watch a video lecture
- Post discussion comments in a forum
- Chat with classmates in a real-time session
- Write a short reflection, about 150 words
- Follow up with recommended resources
Please note that, while high-quality content is an essential component, participation in a STEP course is not simply a transmission of information. In the spirit of Vatican II, we encourage "full, active, conscious" participation of active adult learners in community.
You will have access to all of your course components 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When you complete a course, you will receive a certificate that recognizes your achievement and the number of contact hours you have earned.
