I'm a Catechist

“At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son from the Father… who suffered and died for us and who now, after rising, is living with us forever.” To catechize is “to reveal in the Person of Christ the whole of God’s eternal design reaching fulfillment in that Person. It is to seek to understand the meaning of Christ’s actions and words and of the signs worked by him.” Catechesis aims at putting “people… in communion… with Jesus Christ: only he can lead us to the love of the Father in the Spirit and make us share in the life of the Holy Trinity.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church, #426

STEP Certificate of Theology in Catechesis

Are you seeking to deepen your faith or explore new and exciting ways to approach catechesis in your parish or family?

As catechists, we are coworkers in the vineyard, coming to know Jesus and handing on the faith through teaching. We inspire those we serve to understand and grow as disciples by articulating the faith in engaging and pertinent ways for our communities.

The STEP Certificate of Theology in Catechesis invites you to study the fundamentals of catechesis and to meditate on the doctrine of our faith. Accomplished with a gentle focus on those you serve, you will gain insight and understanding to help you hand on the faith.

Dr. John CavadiniThree courses by Dr. John Cavadini comprise the heart of this study. In Christian Doctrine for Catechists I, II, and III, Dr. Cavadini focuses on the love of God that inspires Catholic doctrine and enables us to teach others about the faith. These three STEP courses derive from a single graduate-level course taught by Dr. Cavadini in the summer of 2014. He advocates two main goals for his class: a renewed pedagogy of the basics and the apologetics of love. The videos below will introduce you to the course and to these two themes.
